Dresden – THE NEW CITY TOUR: CITY OF BAROQUE AND PRECISION

The Dresden City Tour Small takes you to Dresden’s top sights and lets you experience the city’s unique atmosphere along the Elbe.
Dresden uniquely combines Baroque beauty with technological progress, inventiveness, and the highest precision – a city where history and innovation have gone hand in hand for centuries.
Start/Finish: Pirnaischer Platz in the center of Dresden, Departure: 9:00 AM
Duration: approx. 3 hours
After departing from Pirnaischer Platz and crossing to the right bank of the Elbe, we reach Dresden’s Neustadt district, the city’s vibrant and creative quarter with beautifully restored late-19th-century buildings, small shops, cafés, and the highest concentration of bars and clubs in Dresden.
Driving along Rothenburger Straße, Görlitzer Straße, and Alaunstraße towards Martin-Luther-Platz, we get an excellent impression of this carefully restored historic district, which in the late 1980s was at risk of being demolished and replaced by modern housing developments.
We then continue along Bautzner Straße and the slopes above the Elbe, where a short stop offers magnificent panoramic views over Dresden.
From there, we head to Weißer Hirsch, one of Dresden’s most famous and elegant districts, situated high above the city.
With impressions of this famous villa district and its notable former residents, including Manfred von Ardenne, Friedrich Paulus, Martin Andersen Nexø, Hugo Zietz, and Heinrich Lahmann, we descend into the Elbe Valley and cross back to the left bank of the river via Dresden’s famous Blue Wonder Bridge.
Continuing through Blasewitz, another of Dresden’s elegant villa districts, the route takes us towards the Great Garden, passing Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory, the German Hygiene Museum, and the Rudolf Harbig Stadium, the home ground of Dynamo Dresden.
We then continue through Dresden’s historic Old Town, with views of the Altmarkt, which hosts the famous Striezelmarkt in December, and the Kulturpalast, home to the Central Library, the Dresden Philharmonic, and the renowned cabaret theatre “Die Herkuleskeule.”
The route continues past the Zwinger, Semperoper, and Dresden Cathedral, across the Marienbrücke to the Golden Rider. From there, we travel along the Elbe, cross the Albertbrücke, and return to our starting and finishing point at Pirnaischer Platz.
