Discover Saxon Switzerland – The Bastei, Königstein Fortress and Spectacular Views
Experience the most beautiful viewpoints, impressive landscapes and famous attractions of Saxon Switzerland in just one day. The region is one of Germany’s most fascinating natural areas.
Our tour begins in Dresden. We cross the Waldschlösschen Bridge and travel along the River Elbe, passing Dresden’s three Elbe castles and the elegant Weißer Hirsch villa district. Picturesque country roads then take us to Lohmen and onwards to the world-famous Bastei.
Stop 1 – Bastei Viewpoint
Our first destination is the spectacular Bastei viewpoint. From the car park at the panoramic hotel, it is only a short walk to the famous viewing platform.
Enjoy one of Germany’s most beautiful views across the Elbe Valley, the striking sandstone rock formations and the unique landscape of Saxon Switzerland National Park.
Approximately 30 minutes are planned for this stop. During this time, you can enjoy a light snack, use the toilet facilities or take memorable photographs.
We then continue our journey through the national park. The road winds through the idyllic villages of Porschdorf and Rathmannsdorf before descending into the Elbe Valley.
Stop 2 – Bad Schandau
In Bad Schandau, a traditional spa town on the River Elbe, we make a short photo stop at the historic market square.
From here, we cross the Elbe and continue to the climatic health resort of Gohrisch.
Stop 3 – Gohrisch
In Gohrisch, you can look forward to a relaxing lunch break of approximately one hour at a welcoming local restaurant.
Take the opportunity to enjoy regional specialities and recharge your batteries for the rest of the tour.
Stop 4 – Königstein Fortress
After lunch, our route takes us along winding panoramic roads towards Königstein.
The highlight of the tour is the imposing Königstein Fortress, one of the largest hilltop fortresses in Europe.
As a tour group, we are permitted to drive directly to the visitor lift, saving you the strenuous walk uphill.
Admission is not included in the tour price and must be paid locally. In 2026, the standard admission price for adults is €17. Children aged six and under are admitted free of charge. Attractive family tickets are also available.
We allow approximately two hours to explore the extensive fortress complex. Look forward to impressive views across the Elbe Valley, fascinating exhibitions and centuries of history.
After an eventful day, we begin our relaxing return journey to Dresden. Our route takes us through Struppen and Pirna and then follows the River Elbe back to our original departure point.
